When I type my email address or a website address in Word, Excel, or Powerpoint, the software automatically changes them into hyperlinks. There are times when I don’t need that feature. How do I disable that function?

Actually, the creators of Word, Excel, or Powerpoint have made their software function in default in that way to save their users time. You are right, however. There are times when you would not want those email addresses and website URLs hyperlinked (underlined in blue and font changed to blue) — like when you type a stationary or business letter, for example.

Here is what you need to do to turn off that AutoCorrect feature:

1. While Word (Excel, Powerpoint) is open, go to the “Tools” menu and choose AutoCorrect options.

2. Click on “AutoFormat As You Type” tab

3. In the “Replace as you type” section, uncheck the “Internet and network paths with hyperlinks” checkbox.

4. Click OK to accept the changes.

Microsoft Word should no longer turn those email addresses and web addresses into hyperlinks automatically with this fix.

Enjoy!
