Is it possible to rent an apartment for free?
I’m trying to cut down on our monthly expenses. The monthly rent for our apartment is eating up our savings. Is there such a thing as free apartment rental?
Have you been shopping around and asking for quotes yet? If your apartment rental is way too much for you to be able to afford and live comfortably in it, it may be time to move. Pull out your local business directory/Yellow Pages and start asking for a rental quote. Pick the top 5 lowest prices and then call each one and ask for a tour of the apartment grounds and rooms. You don’t want to be stuck with a bad one, just because you are trying to save money (unless you can deal with it).
If you’re still looking at the possibilites of getting free rent at the apartment you are currently living in, there are some steps you can try.
Talk to the owners of your apartment complex. Offer your services to their facility in exchange for free rent. For example, if you have electrical or mechanical skills, propose to do those type of maintenance for the apartment complex. You can propose to maintain the grounds every week, such as mowing the lawn or taking care of the gardens or plants in the complex, if any. You can also propose to manage the apartment for them, such as collecting bills and doing some bookkeeping job. Sometimes, they might offer to pay you a small amount of money instead for doing certain services for them (rather than giving you free rental). It is entirely up to you whether to accept that offer or not, but every little thing helps, and you can use that to pay off your monthly rental. Just make sure that the exchange is fair though and no one is abusing the other.
In short, give them a reason to give you free apartment rental. Remember, you are trying to propose to them with a win-win situation. No one wants to give out free rental for nothing in return! (I wish that was the case).
If it does not work out, then try the same process with other apartment complexes. You just might get lucky!
