How to setup WordPress with Yahoo Web Hosting?

How do I setup WordPress with Yahoo Web Hosting?

In an earlier post I explained why you should re-consider setting up WordPress with Yahoo Web Hosting.  However if you choose to do so here is a step by step guide:

First visit smallbusiness.yahoo/webhosting:source=geocities and Choose your plan.

You can then choose to register a domain with Yahoo or use one you already own:

Yahoo web hosting choose a domain

Before paying for Yahoo web hosting and perhaps a domain you will need to signup with Yahoo Aabaco Small Business:

After you have completed the signup process, verified your email, added your details and you’ve received the getting started email you should end up back on the Yahoo web hosting home page where you can access your account.

Click “Access Your Account” to access the web hosting control panel

Click on the Create & Update Tab

Scroll down and click on WordPress just under Blog Tools:

Here you will see the form you need to complete in order to install wordpress:

Step 1. Add in login information, password, and Email you want to use with this site.
Step 2. Select the checkmark “Make my blog my homepage” to install your WordPress site on your homepage and for your entire site.
Step 3. Next choose “Install in this default directory…”. As yahoo does not allow you to install WordPress on your root directory, you must select a directory name or a pre-existing directly in which to install WordPress. It will still install your blog on your homepage.
Step 4. Accept the license agreement and then click Activate

WordPress should now be successfully Installed!

Select “Edit Blog settings” to access your WordPress dash board where you need to enter the Username and Password you just created.

Can I use WordPress with Yahoo Web Hosting?

I would like to use Yahoo Web Hosting but does Yahoo Web Hosting Support WordPress?

Yes you can use WordPress with Yahoo Web Hosting and here’s a post explaining How to setup WordPress with Yahoo Web Hosting. However you should reconsider using Yahoo Web Hosting with WordPress for the following reasons:

My personal experience with Yahoo Web Hosting is that the customer service is poor and the server isn’t that reliable or fast. After trying many hosting providers I ended up with SiteGround, which is the best hosting provider bar none.

Just in case you’re still unconvinced as to whether to join Yahoo Web hosting, here are some reviews:

Yahoo Web Hosting Reviews

Here’s some recent reviews from others that reflect my own experience. Yahoo Web Hosting has an average user rating of 2.5 among 75 users.

The quality of the domain and web hosting was never spectacular, but over the years it just went from bad to worse.

I have had a site with Yahoo for about 10 years. Their systems have been out of date for a long time, but they used to be reliable. Now the only thing that works reliably is my WordPress blog, but I have to fight my way into it every day…

Yahoo does NOT allow you to cancel a plan unless you CALL them and good luck with that… I’ve been on the phone for over 60-minutes and they still can’t “figure out” how to cancel my plan… Just use 1and1 or another web hosting/domain service. You’ll save yourself time, money, and a lot of aggravation!

This is the worst company I’ve ever had to deal with. They said we couldn’t downgrade a plan, so we had to create a new one. Because of that, we were due a refund, and for 4 months now I’ve been fighting with them to get it…

The customer service is outsourced to India and absolutely horrible. We switched payment from one credit card to another hosted on paypal and they couldn’t even look up our account… They have no clue what they’re doing.

This is literally the worst customer experience ever. The call center is managed from India, the wait time to get someone is usually 25-35 minutes and they are useless when you do get a person. And, if you want to get your money back for canceling … forget it. I would recommend their service to no one!

Yahoo web hosting sucks. I’ve used them for 8 years and all was really great, then 3 months ago they were having problems and I haven’t been able to import or publish my site ever since. Losing customers and unable to get my domain name.

Why Choose SightGround

The three most important factors when choosing a web host are Customer service, Performance and Price, with SiteGround performing best overall in all three.

Out of 964 reviews siteground scored 4.5 out of 5 stars:

Customer Service

Siteground provides brilliant customer support. In fact it’s the best I’ve received from any hosting provider. There hasn’t been a single occasion where my question didn’t receive a quick response from someone who knew what they were talking about.

It only takes me seconds to receive a response from their live chat feature. Plus unlike other customer service reps, they seem to be native English speakers – which can make communication a bit easier.

Performance

According to wpsitecare.com when tested for speed with 11 other top shared hosting providers, Siteground came second – second only to inmotion hosting. However Siteground provides caching for your wordpress blog which when turned on can technically make it the fastest and it tends to perform better for higher volumes of trafic.

One of the reasons SiteGround tends to perform better for higher volumes of traffic is the caching. Turning on caching is as simple as logging into the control panel and clicking a button.

Pricing

SiteGround offers much better value for money, particularly if you’re site receives higher traffic. A webhost that includes such great performance for higher volume traffic and great customer service is something that usually carries with it a higher price tag. However at £2.75/month ($3.75/month) SiteGround is well within the range of other more popular web hosts who provide much less.
